Our skilled therapists work with you and your physician to develop a program appropriate for your needs. Our therapy services are available on an outpatient basis upon referral of the patients physician.

 

Occupational Therapy

KRMC's Occupational therapists help people retain functional abilities for home, work, and leisure.  The goal of occupational therapy is to help patients achieve as much personal independence as possible.

Occupational therapy involves specialized techniques for teaching adaptive skills for performing daily activities.  A wide variety of children and adults can benefit from occupational therapy at KRMC, such as people with:

  • Physical, cognitive, or psychological limitations following a stroke, brain injury or heart attack
  • Rheumatoid and age-related conditions such as arthritis
  • Work-related injuries including lower back problems, carpal tunnel syndrome, or other repetitive strains
  • Neurodegenerative movement disorders such as multiple sclerosis or Parkinson's disease
  • Learning difficulites or developmental disabilities such as autism or cerebral palsy 
  • Burns, spinal cord injuries, or amputations
  • Fractures or other injuries from falls, sports injuries, or accidents

Physical Therapy

KRMC's physical therapists help people restore maximum movement and functional ability.

Physical therapy involves special exercises and physical agents such as heat, cold, and ultrasound to build strength, restore lost physical abilities, control pain and promote healing.

Physical therapy interventions may include spinal extremity massage; therapeutic exercise; electrotherapeutic and mechanical agents; functional training; provision of aids and appliances; and patient/family education and counseling.

  • Leg and knee dysfunction
  • Spinal injuries
  • Back and neck pain
  • Joint conditions, such as arthritis
  • Muscular control problems, such as cerebral palsy

Speech Therapy

KRMC's speech therapists help people with speech disorders improve their oral communication skills. 

Speech therapy may involve physical strengthening exercises, instructive practice and drilling, the use of audio-visual aids, and other strategies to facilitate functional communication.

People who can benefit from the outpatient speech therapy services at KRMC include those with

  • Voice disorders
  • Swallowing disorders
  • Childhood speech and language delays
  • Communication disorders as a result of head trauma or stroke
  • Voice prosthesis as a result of a laryngectomy (surgical removal of the larynx)
  • Hearing impairment
  • Communication disorders associated with Down's syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism, multiple sclerosis, or cleft palate
